Post-Collegiate Women's Lax Team

Welcome fellow and future laxers!  My name is Jess and I am looking to start a post-collegiate women's lacrosse team here in Tucson.

After graduating from Brown University this past May, I decided to leave the state of Rhode Island where I grew up and went to school, and see other parts of the country.  I first moved to Dallas, Texas, and now I have located in Tucson Arizona.

A major aspect that has been missing in my post-collegiate life is being on a team.  I did some research about lacrosse in this great state and discovered that there is only one women's lacrosse team in the entire state--and this team practices two hours away!  As a Rhode Islander who can make about 4 laps of my entire state in two hours--this seems like too far of a distance.  Thus, I have decided to start my own team here in Tucson.

This is where I need your help--If you are interested or know anyone who is interested in playing lacrosse, please reach out to me via this blog!  Myself and a few others are pushing to assemble a team here in Tucson.  You do not have to have any major lacrosse experience to join--we are just looking for members who love the game, love to work out, or want to try something new!

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please comment/follow this blog.  Looking forward to meeting all of you laxers out there!

Until then,
Jess

  1. Hi Jess! I played lacrosse for the University of Arizona's club team in college a few years back. I am a little rusty to say the least but have been missing lacrosse like crazy since I stopped playing! I might be able to interest a few of my fellow alum. Are you currently practicing/throwing around at all? Let me know!

  2. Hey Lauren! Thanks so much for the post! We are still getting the word out there about the team, but would love to get some informal tossing around going on!

Would you mind leaving me with your email address so we can discuss this further via email? Thanks!!!

  3. Hi Jess, I will be relocating to Tucson in April and would love to get back into the game. I played on a club team in college and in Portland after I graduated. Any new developments in your efforts to put together a group of interested people? Meghan

  4. Hey Meghan--unfortunately the team has been difficult to get off the ground. I have about half a dozen women who are interested in player; however, that isn't enough enough to scrimmage. Additionally, I will be moving back to the northeast in June, so I am not sure how long I can continue to push for this team. I think what may be a good option is to trade emails and I can give your email to a woman who resides in Tucson who will be able to follow through with this team even in my absence. Hope this helps, and thanks for the interest!

  5. hi..I just came across this blog and I notice it's about a year old. I've never played lacrosse but I've been hearing a lot about it and now I have been wanting to try it out but I haven't been able to find any women's lacrosse clubs. Have you started one yet?

  6. Hi Jess,

I'm going to be an entering freshman at U of A in Tucson this fall 2012 and sadly they dont have a women's lacrosse. I would be interested in playing with you and your team. I have played lax for 5 years and have varsity lettered the past two years. I normally play middie position. I ran xc for 4 years in hs, varsity lettered in that sport. I have been swimming for over 10 years, and varsity lettered in that sport in hs. You can contact me at skittlelover@comcast.net. Also, I'm a lax girls ref, if you happen to know how I can get into that in Tucson It would be great.

Hope to hear from you, Leah S
